Men’s 15’s national team’s new coaching staff is filled with familiar HRC faces. The Finnish Rugby Federation announced on Monday the appointement of ex-HRC coach Alastair Davies as the new national team head coach.

Davies (on the left in the picture) will be assisted in his task by Marko Sallert (on the right in the picture) and David O’Connor.

Scotsman Davies, who came to HRC from Turku Eagles, led the Big Guns to championship wins in 2014 and 2016. Davies’ left hand man in the resurrection of HRC was the lock Sallert, who ended his playing career this spring and will take charge of the national team’s forward pack development. Irish O’Connor started as HRC’s player-coach during last winter and will assist in developing the NT’s attacking and defensive patterns.

Success in the domestic championship is not easy to duplicate on international level, but there’s no better trio in Finland to take on the task. Best of luck and success to the new challenge!

The men’s national team plays in the fifth level of European rugby, the Rugby Europe Conference 2 and was third in its five-team northern group in the 2017-18 season. National team games continue in the autumn.
